When Amitabh Bachchan’s mother Teji Bachchan wept inconsolably on watching his character die in Deewar

Remember the memorable scene from the iconic film Deewar in which the protagonist Vijay(Amitabh Bachchan) dies in the arms if his on screen mother Nirupa Roy.

The scene in the 1973 film left many a fan of Amitabh Bachchan teary eyed and emotional,  an emotion evoked by their love for the superstar.

It is, however,  a little known fact that Amitabh Bachchan's mother Teji Bachchan was among those who got highly emotional on watching the scene.

The megastar revealed on an episode of the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati that the scene of death of his character in Deewar left his mother deeply emotional.

'I had taken my mother for the premiere of Deewar. However, as she watched   the last scene of the film,  in which my character dies in the arms of his mother,  my mother got very emotional.  She began weeping inconsolably on watching Vijay's death on the big screen.

So much so that it became a little embarrassing for me.  I had to take her outside the cinema auditorium.  However,  despite my telling her that I am standing with her and that it was only my character in the film which had died, she kept weeping,'Amitabh Bachchan said on the show.

Released in 1975, Deewar is an action drama which tells the story of two  brothers who struggle to survive in the slums of Bombay after they are left impoverished by the  idealism of their father.

In their race for survival, , Ravi(Shashi Kapoor)  and Vijay(Amitabh Bachchan)
find themselves on opposing sides of the law.

Deewar starred  Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Neetu Singh, Nirupa Roy and Parveen Babi in .pivotal roles.

Deewar,  written by Salim Javed, and directed by Yash Chopra , is one of the iconic films that reflects the socio political turmoil in the 1979s due to growing wedge between the rich and the poor.

The film earned commercial success as well as critical acclaim.

Deewaar won  the Filmfare Best Movie Award of 1976, and also won   Filmfare Awards for Best Screenplay, Best Dialogue, Best Director, Best Sound, Best Story, and Best Supporting Actor for Shashi Kapoor.
