When Harivansh Rai Bachchan asked Amitabh,  Jaya to marry before going on a holiday to London

In the world of Bollywood where all love marriages are usually preceded by a formal proposal from the man to his heartthrob,  the love marriage of the favourite Bollywood couple of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri was not preceded by any formal proposal from either person.

Speaking on the Shaandaar Shukravaar episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati,  megastar Amitabh Bachchan revealed that he did not formally propose to Jaya before the two tied the knot.

Amitabh Bachchan’s father Harivansh Rai Bachchan asked him to marry Jaya before going on a holiday to London 





Reminiscing about that period when everyone in the film industry was awaiting the marriage of the much in love Amitabh and Jaya, the megastar said, 'there was no formal proposal made by me before marrying Jaya.  After working in several films together,  I and Jaya were paired opposite each other in Prakash Mehra's Zanzeer. I, Jaya and our group of friends had decided that if Zanzeer does well,  we will go on a trip to London. 

When Zanzeer turned out to be a big hit, we got ready to embark on a trip to London.  However,  when babuji(Harivansh Rai Bachchan) came to know that I was going on a trip to London with Jaya and other friends,  he set forth a  condition that we two must get married before embarking on the trip to London.  That was how the marriage happened.  It was all very sudden . There was no time for a formal proposal. '

Amitabh Bachchan married actress and politician Jaya Bhaduri in 1973 after a long courtship .

They did several films together,  including Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Abhimaan, Mili,Chupke Chupke , Sholay and Zanzeer.

Together,  they have two children Shweta and Abhishek Bachchan.
