Jersey takes a slow start at the box office,  earns Rs 3.75 cr on its opening day

After an extraordinary start at the box office for multilingual films RRR and KGF2,  the Shahid Kapoor Mrunal Thakur starrer Jersey took a slow start at the box office in India,  earning Rs 3.75  to 4 cr on its opening day .

Notwithstanding the presence of Shahid Kapoor and a strong buzz around the film ahead of its release,  Jersey had a lukewarm opening, in sharp contrast to the thunderous opening taken by films like RRR and KGF2.

Jersey has collections of Rs 3.75 cr on its opening day 





Though collections of the film are likely to jump on Saturday and Sunday, it would find it difficult to get past the Rs 25 to 30 cr mark at the end of the week.

Written and directed by Gowtam Tinnannuri, Jersey is the story of Arjun Raichand, a thirty six year old cricketer who stopped his cricketing career ten years ago and is  now aiming to play for Indian team.

A remake of Telugu film of the same title,  Jersey stars Shahid Kapoor as Arjun Raichand, a 36 year old cricketer who is looking to make a comeback to the sport after a gap of 10  years. Mrunal Thakur plays his wife.

Shahid has grabbed the attention of cinelovers in the promos and trailer of the film.

This is the second remake done by Shahid after Kabir Singh,  which was also the remake of a Telugu film.


The film, which has been produced by Allu Aravind,  Aman Gill, Dil Raju and Suryadevara, also features Shahid Kapoor's father  Pankaj Kapur in a key role.

Shahid Kapoor has said that the role in Jersey is something that is close to his heart.

The actor has said that the shooting for the film was held amid the raging Covid pandemic.

The film has been postponed several times due to the covid Pandemic.

The film was earlier scheduled to release in August last year  but it' was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Then, it was scheduled for release in December last year but had to be deterred due to the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Jersey marks Shahid Kapoor's return to the big screen after a long gap.  He was last seen in the film Kabir Singh,  released in 2019.
