Much has been said of Saira Banu's refusal to take up the legendary role of Rosy in the iconic film Guide,  a role which later went to legendary actress Waheeda Rehman.

Looking back, Saira Banu, however,  feels that she was too young to handle the role of Rosy.

Saira Banu, who declined the offer to play Rosy in the Vijay Anand directorial Guide because of her preoccupation with Mehboob Khan's HUBBA KHATOON, which featured her opposite Dilip Kumar , confesses that Waheeda Rehman did a fabulous job of playing Rosy in Guide.

'When Guide was offered to me,  Dev Sahib had sent Tad Dalielewski to my home to discuss the film but I had already said 'Yes' to 'HUBBA KHATOON '  with Sahib as the Prince Yousuf Chak of Kashmir with Mehboob Khan of 'Mother India ' fame.

Here I must thank GOD a million times for the miss of 'GUIDE' in my career because I firmly believe that I was too young to handle the role of Rosy and Waheeda Apa did a fabulous job in the same,'Saira Banu said in a post on Instagram.

Directed by Vijay Anand and produced by Dev Anand, Guide is hailed as one of the greatest films of Indian cinema with memorable performances by Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman. 

The film fetched for Waheeda Rehman the Filmfare award for Best actress. 

Saira Banu said that knowing Waheeda Rehman has been a beautiful experience for her.

'She and I have been constantly in touch with both our hearts and shared moments of joy and also terrible sorrows .

Knowing Waheeda Apa has been a beautiful experience because not only has it been long, but equally profound and I wish to continue this fas long as I shall be, 'Saira Banu said.

Saira Banu said that what she especially liked about Waheeda Rehman was her simplicity.

'I always admired her simplicity in life. She hardly wore any makeup and seemed very down to earth with no airs and graces,'Saira Banu said.
