Punjabi films doing decent business during pandemic; Chal Mera Putt 2 earns Rs 14.5 cr at end of 4th weekend

Amid an average run of Bollywood films Bell Bottom and Chehre and the multilingual film Thalaivii,  Punjabi films are doing decent business at the box office.

After a strong showing post the pandemic,  the comedy film Chal Mera Putt 2 has recorded decent business at the cinemas,  earning Rs 14.57 cr at the end of its fourth weekend.

The film collected Rs 1.18 cr in its fourth weekend in the cinemas across India,  taking its total earnings at the end of the fourth weekend to Rs 14.57 cr.

Trade experts say that a business of Rs 14.57 cr done by the film at the end of the fourth weekend is commendable considering that the film released to limited screens compared to Bollywood films like Bell Bottom and Chehre. The release of the film was limited to theatres in Delhi and Punjab. 

Chal Mera Putt 2, which released in theatres in March,  had done a business of Rs 2.92 cr during its first weekend from March 13 to 15. The Punjabi film did a business of Rs 6.76 cr in its first week post the second wave of pandemic and 
Rs 3.71 cr in its second week post the pandemic.

The film has done excellent business in Canda and the United Kingdom.

Trade sources say that the film is expected to do a business of around Rs 17 crore (nett) during its entire run in Cinemas.

Another Punjabi film Yaar Anmulle Returns did decent business across India in its opening weekend,  earning around Rs 1 crore (nett) in its opening weekend.

A comedy-drama film directed by Janjot Singh, Chal Mera Putt 2,  a direct sequel to 2019 film Chal Mera Putt, is the story of  Punjabis trying hard to make a living in a foreign land.

The film , produced by Karaj Gill under Rhythm Boyz Entertainment and by Ashu Munish Sahni under Omjee Star Studios, stars Amrinder Gill, Simi Chahal, and Garry Sandhu in lead roles and Iftikhar Thakur, Nasir Chinyoti, Akram Udas, Zafri Khan, Gurshabad, Hardeep Gill, Nirmal Rishi, and Ruby Anam in supporting roles.
