Parichay is a landmark film in my dad's career; Ekta Kapoor

He is among the most prolific actors in the Mumbai Film industry, having worked in nearly 200 films as a lead actor in a career span of over three decades.
Legendary actor Jitendra may be known for his several successful films in the 80s, including several Hindi remakes of South Indian blockbuster films in which he starred alongside Sridevi and Jayaprada, but his daughter and the queen of the small screen Ekta Kapoor considers the 1972 film Gulzar as a landmark film in the career of the iconic star.

Ekta Kapoor, who appeared with her father Jitendra on the Kapil Sharma show on Sony entertainment television, said that the legendary writer and director Gulzar, who incidentally also directed Parichay, is among her most revered filmmakers.
'We all have a lot of respect for Gulzarji, My mother had told me to touch the feet of Gulzarji when I met him.
I remember meeting him at a function where a lot of people were present. I immediately touched his feet, 'Ekta Kapoor.
Though Jitendra, who made his debut in Hindi films with V Shantaram's Geet Gaya Patharon Ne(1964), rose to popularity with films like Farz, Humjoli and Caravan, which featured him as a dancing star, his association with Gulzar, starting from Parichay and continuing with Kinara and Khushboo, is considered a landmark phase in his career as it helped him realise his acting potential.
Parichay, Kinara and Khushboo earned Jitendra lot of acclaim for his performances. The films were also acclaimed for their beautifully penned songs, which were composed by the legendary music director R D Burman.
Produced by V. K. Sobti under the Tirupathi Pictures banner and directed by Gulzar, Parichay starred Jeetendra and Jaya Bhaduri in the lead roles.
Sanjeev Kumar, Pran, Vinod Khanna and Asrani played pivotal roles in the film, which was said to be based on the Bengali novel Rangeen Uttaran by Raj Kumar Maitra.
Parichay was also party inspired by the foreign film The Sound of Music.
