Sooryavanshi  takes  flying start at box office,  earns around Rs 27 cr on its opening day

After a drought of film releases over the last 19 months,  it is  back to cinemas for the audiences with the Akshay Kumar Katrina Kaif starrer Sooryavanshi taking a flying start at the box office with opening  day collections  of around Rs 27 cr at the box office.

Riding on the tremendous hype around the film and presence of Akshay Kumar,  Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh and Katrina Kaif,  Sooryavanshi is drawing audiences to cinemas in huge numbers across the country.

The Rohit Shetty directed film, which released on over 4000 cinema halls across India, has earned approximately Rs 27 cr from across the country .

Of the total earnings of the film,  Rs 10 crore came from Mumbai while it earned around Rs 5.5 cr from Delhi UP .

The film also had a huge opening day in Gujarat .

With earnings of nearly Rs 27 cr on its opening day in India,  Sooryavanshi became the second highest opener for Akshay Kumar,  after Mission Mangal.

Trade experts say that It is the fourth highest opener for Rohit Shetty,  after Singham Returns,  Chennai Express and Golmaal Again.

Sooryavanshi has finally broken the jinx  for Bollywood,  which has in the past few months witnessed films like Bell Bottom,  Mumbai Saga,  Chehre and Thalaivi take an average opening in India amid the restrictions in cinema halls necessitated by Covid-19 pandemic and the reluctance of the audiences to venture out to watch films in theatres amid the looming threat of Covid-19.

Trade analysts say that the collections of the film are expected to witness a jump on Saturday and Sunday,  with a Rs 100 cr opening weekend a definite possibility.

The strong opening taken by Sooryavanshi has spread cheer in the film industry which is seeing it as a sign of the revival of film business in the country.

Though the past few months have witnessed the release of big starrers like Roohi, Mumbai Saga, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, Bell Bottom and Chehre,  all of these film had an average run at the box office amid the continuing threat of Covid and restrictions put on place on entry of audiences in cinema halls.

However,  now, with a sharp decline in the Covid-19 cases across India,  cinema halls in most parts of the,  barring Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh,  are now operating at 100 per cent of their capacity.

The release of Sooryavanshi  kickstarts the process of release of big starrers in the cinema halls after a drought of film releases over the last 19 months due to the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Release of Sooryavanshi will be followed by the release of Bunty Aur Babli2 and Antim on November 19 and that of Satyameva Jayate 2 on November 25.

The makers of Sooryavanshi have released the film on a grand scale.  The film will release on over 4000 cinema halls across India and nearly 1500 cinema halls in oversees.

While, going by the pre covid numbers,  Sooryavanshi would have been expected to earn over Rs 40 cr on its opening day,  with the threat of Third wave still looming and with the cinemas in Maharashtra,  a major market for Hindi films,  still operating at 50 per cent occupancy,  the film has had to contend with collections of Rs 27 cr on its opening day.

An action thriller Directed by Rohit Shetty,  Sooryavanshi stars Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles with Ranveer Singh featured in a pivotal role.

The film has  also been produced by Rohit Shetty in association with Cape Of Good Films of Akshay Kumar.

Ahead of the release of the film,  it's makers unleashed a huge marketing campaign. As part of the campaign,  the stars of Sooryavanshi have been conveying to the audience that it is safe for them to watch the film on the big screen.

Infact, In a video released last month, Akshay, Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh said that after a 'brief interval' caused by the Covid-19 pandemic,  it was time to enjoy the magic of the movies on the big screen.

The marketing campaign for the film included release of its songs , including the popular songs Alla Re Alla and romantic Na Jaa, featuring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif.

The songs of the film have been trending on the social media.

Ahead of the release of Sooryavanshi,  a special screening of the film was held for The Mumbai Police. Both  AkshayKumar and Rohit Shetty were present for the screening .

With the release of Sooryavanshi to be followed by several mega starrers and blockbusters, the film industry as well as exhibitors are hoping that it will be back to cinema halls for the audiences.

Directed by Rohit Shetty,  Sooryavanshi has witnessed several postponements over the last year and a half due to Covid.
