83 reaches the Rs 100 cr mark in India after 5 weeks

Amid a theatre shutdown in many parts of the country caused by the third wave of COVID-19, the Ranveer Singh starrer 83, the story of India’s remarkable triumph in the 1983 cricket World Cup, has reached the milestone of Rs 100 cr in terms of its theatrical revenues in India.
83 , which has had an average response at the box office contrary to the expectations of the film trade, earned Rs 1.5 cr in its fifth week, taking the total earnings of the film in India to Rs 100 cr.

The film, which released in theatres in the Christmas week, performed much below the expectations of the film trade, earning Rs 67.83 cr in its opening week.
The earnings of the film dropped sharply in its second week to Rs 24.29 crore and to Rs 4.74 cr in its third week.
While the film has performed well in the various metro cities, it's performance in non metro cities has been below average.
Directed by Kabir Khan, 83 stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role with Deepika Padukone, Tahir Raj Bhasin and Pankaj Tripathi featuring in pivotal roles.
The film has evoked much appreciation from critics for its brilliant direction and good performances by the cast, especially Ranveer Singh as the then Indian skipper Kapil Dev.
