Vir Gurjar Mahasabha claims that Prithviraj Chauhan a Gurjar,threatens protests against historical venture Prithviraj

Ahead of the release of the historical film Prithviraj,  based on life of legendary emperor Prithviraj Chauhan,  a controversy seems to be brewing over the lineage of the ruler with the Akhil Bharatiya Vir Gurjar Mahasabha claiming that the emperor was belonged to the Gurjar Samaj and was  not a Rajput as referred to by the NCERT,  CBSE and the Indian Council for Historical research.

Questioning the depiction of Prithviraj Chauhan as Rajput by the Archaeological survey of India,  the NCERT, the CBSE and the Indian Council for Historical research , the Vir Gurjar Mahasabha said that there was concrete evidence of the fact that Prithviraj Chauhan owed his origins to the Gurjar Samaj.

Addressing a press conference, the Akhil  Bharatiya  Vir  Gurjar  Mahasabha threatened to protest  release of  the  film  Prithviraj  if there was a distortion  of  history.

An office bearer of the Akhil Bharatiya Gurjar Mahasabha Dr Jitesh Gurjar  said that the Prithviraj Vijay Mahakavya, an epic which was translated in Hindi as Prithviraj Vijay Mahakavya, refers to Prithviraj Chauhan as a Gurjar Emperor.

The epic, which was written by great Kashmiri poet Pandit Jayanak who was the royal poet of Gurjar emperor Prithviraj Chauhan., also contains reference to the win of Prithviraj Chauhan over Mohammed Gori in the battle of Tarain.

Dr Jitesh Gurjar said that the Prithviraj Vijay mahakavya refers to the fort of Prithviraj Chauhan as Gurjar Durg.. He said that the epic also refers to the defeat of Mohammed Ghori at the hand of the Gurjars..

The Akhil Bharatiya Vir Gurjar Mahasabha further said that the the epic Prithviraj Raso, from which the film Prithviraj has been inspired,  refers to Prithviraj Chauhan's father Someshwar  as a Gurjar. According to Prithviraj Raso, Gurjar emperor Prithviraj Chauhan died in the second battle of Tarain in 1191 92 AD.

Addressing the press conference,  the Rajasthan state president of the Akhil Bharatiya Vir Gurjar Mahasabha Manish Gurjar said that in the Yash Raj venture Prithviraj,  the emperor should be shown as a Gurjar.

'Any tampering with historical facts will not be tolerated,'he said and threatened protests by the Akhil Bharatiya Vir Gurjar Mahasabha will protest against any distortion of history in the film.

Yash Raj Films Prithviraj, a biopic of the warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan of the Chauhan dynasty who waged a fierce clash against the Islamic Conquest of India by Mohammed Ghori, a ruler from the Ghurid dynasty, is slated for release in cinemas in the first week of June.

Produced by Yash Raj Films and Aditya Chopra,  Prithviraj stars Akshay Kumar in the title role of Prithviraj Chauhan..

Prithviraj stars Manushi Chhillar as Prithviraj Chauhan's wife Sanyogita.

Manushi Chhillar makes her Bollywood ebut with the film.

Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Prithviraj also stars Sanjay Dutt,  Sonu Sood,  Ashutosh Rana,  Sakshi Tanwar,  Manav Vij and Lalit Tiwari in pivotal roles.

The film have evoked tremendous buzz among cinegoers for its grand production values and its attractive promos and trailers.

Prithviraj was earlier scheduled for release in cinemas November 13, 2020 but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  Later, the film was scheduled for release on January 21, 2022 but had to be postponed due to the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
