Brahmastra earns Rs 146.5 cr in its opening week

By Rajesh Ahuja

Continuing its strong run at box office in India, Brahmastra reached close to the Rs 150 cr mark in its opening week.

After a rocking start, wherein the Ranbir Kapoor Alia Bhatt starrer earned over Rs 100 cr in its opening weekend,  Brahmastra saw a drop in its earnings during the week days.

While the collections dropped to Rs 14 cr on Monday,  they dropped to Rs 11 cr on Tuesday,  Rs 9.25 cr on Wednesday and Rs 7.75 cr on Thursday.

The film has earned Rs 146.5 cr in its opening week.

Ever since its release in cinemas, Brahmastra has had a blockbuster run at box office,  earning over Rs 104 cr in its opening weekend,  bringing considerable cheer to the film industry.

Its is the first Rs 100 cr opening weekend by a Hindi film this year, which has witnessed several big budget Bollywood films draw a lukewarm response at the box office.

It is also the highest opening taken by a Ranbir Kapoor film.

The film has drawn huge crowds to the theatres in the metro cities across the country.

Brahmastra has done excellent business in Mumbai, Pune,  Delhi and NCR,  Punjab, Gujarat, West Bengal, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Infact there has been a sharp growth in the earnings of the film in Delhi and NCR on Saturday and Sunday. .

The rocking start taken by the film has brought cheer to the film trade after the disappointing run by Big budget films like Prithviraj, Shamshera,  Heropanti2,  Jersey and Laal Singh Chaddha.

Released in over 9000 cinema screens worldwide,  the grand epic Brahmastra, also  stars  superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna in key roles,

Trade observers say that the huge opening taken by the film is largely due to its grand look and it's breathtaking special effects which lend a Hollywoodesque feel to it.

The first film in the three part film Franchise that marks the beginning of India’s first original universe The Astraverse, Brahmastra Part one narrates the story of Shiva, the protagonist of the film and his epic love story with Isha(Alia Bhatt).

The world of Shiva an DIsha is turned upside  down when  Shiva learns that he has a mysterious  connection  to  the  Brahmastra,  the  most powerful and deadly  divine weapon of  the God's. Shiva also discovers a great  power within him - the power of  fire.

The film will take viewers into Shiva’s adventures as he journeys into the World of Astras and discovers his destiny  as the divine hero  of the  universe.

BRAHMĀSTRA – the Trilogy, is a 3-part film franchise and the beginning of India’s first original universe The Astraverse

Set in modern day India,  Brahmastra tells the story of a secret society Brahmansh, who have protected many divine astras, created  in ancient  India, over several generations and  safeguarded them from the eyes of the world .

BRAHMASTRA, the most powerful and the most deadly amongst these divine weapons; the Lord of all the Other Astras - named after the most powerful weapon of the Gods,  is now waking up. And it threatens to completely destroy the universe we know today.

Produced by Star Studios, Dharma Productions, Prime Focus and Starlight Pictures and directed  by Ayan Mukherjee,  Brahmastra  Part one is releasing theatrically on September 9 in 5 Indian languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

Being presented  by S S Rajamouli in four South Indian languages- Tamil , Telugu,  Kannada and Malayalam-Brahmastra  features an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni.

The makers of the film released its trailer earlier this year.

Director Ayan Mukherji says that Brahmastra marks the  beginning of a new cinematic universe, The Astraverse..

“Marking the beginning of a new cinematic universe, ‘The Astraverse’, I believe Brahmāstra is the kind of film that the country would feel really proud of. It touches on our roots; celebrates our rich culture and it takes us forward with our technology. The film is proudly Indian and Imaginative and bringing together some of Pan-India’s most renowned names was a dream come true,'he says.

Announced in the year 2014, Brahmastra has been shot in locations including Bulgaria, London, New York, Edinburgh, and Varanasi. Production and release of the film was delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The excellent response to the film comes as a boost to film trade which has witnessed several big budget Bollywood films released in cinemas in the last few months fail to generate a good response from the audiences.

Infact,  barring The Kashmir Files,   Bhool Bhulaiya2 and Jug Jugg Jeeyo,  most Hindi films released in cinemas in recent months have failed to set the box office on fire,  spreading a gloom in the film world.
