Directed by Revathi, Salaam Venky is a slice of life drama which tells the story of a mother who does everything she can to let her son, diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, live life to the fullest.
Produced by Suraj Singh and Shraddha Aggarwal under their banners Blive Productions and RTake Studios respectively, Salaam Venky stars Kajol and Vishal Jethwa in the lead roles.
Based on the book The Last Hurrah by Srikant Murthy, Salaam Venky, which was earlier titled The Last Hurrah is inspired by a true story of a mother Sujata who battled with a smile the most challenging situations due to her son being diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The other release of the week Maarrich is a horror film directed by Dhruv Lather.
It is the story of a police officer who, in course of his investigation to solve a murder mystery, uncovers deep dark secrets from the past which leads to a spine chilling face off in the finale
The poor run by Salaam Venky and Maarrich follows the lacklustre box office performance of previous week releases Bhediya and An action Hero.
Despite its release evoking a lot of buzz among cinelovers, an action hero had a poor opening at the box office, earning just Rs 5.6 cr in its opening weekend.
The film managed collections of just Rs 8.75 cr in its opening week.
Horror comedy Bhediya too failed to set the box office on fire.
After poor collections of Rs 38 cr in its opening week, the horror comedy saw a drop in collections to Rs 17 cr in its second week, taking its earnings in two weeks to Rs 55 cr..
Both Bhediya and An action Hero released to high expectations at the box office but failed to enthuse audiences.
Meanwhile, psychological thriller Drishyam 2 continues its meteoric run at the box office, having earned Rs 203 crate end of its fourth weekend.
