The Amitabh Bachchan starrer Chehre continues its poor run at the box office,  earning Rs 2.75 cr in its opening week across India.

Chehre earned Rs 15 lakh on Thursday,  taking its earnings during the opening week to Rs 2.75 crore.

Despite a strong buzz created by its promos and trailer,  Chehre had earned Rs 40 lakh on its opening day on August 27. Though the collections of the film witnessed a jump on Sunday to Rs 85 lakh, the film's earnings during the opening weekend were just Rs 2.25 crore.

Meanwhile,  the Akshay Kumar starrer Bell Bottom earned Rs 7 crore during its second week,  a drop of over 60 per cent from its collections in its opening week.

The film has now earned a total of Rs 25.75 crore in two weeks.

The film trade had been hoping that the release of Bell Bottom and Chehre would kickstart the process of Revival of the film business by drawing audiences back to the theatres after a prolonged period of shutdown of theatres due to Covid.

The average run of the two films , whose release was preceded by a lot of buzz in film circles and among cinelovers,  is being attributed to the theatres across India operating at just 50 percent occupancy due to Covid and the closure of cinema halls in Maharashtra amid the threat of the Delta variant of covid.

This week witnesses the release of Hollywood films Fast and the Furious 9 and Shang Chi and Faisal Khan's factory.

While Faisal Khan's factory is releasing without much hype,  Fast and the Furious 9 and Shang Chi have evoked a lot of buzz among cinelovers with heavy rush for advance booking reported for Shang Chi.

The coming weeks will witness the release of Thalaivi,  biopic on life of late Tamil Naidu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

However,  apart from Thalaivi,  not many Bollywood filmmakers have scheduled release of their films in September and October due to the threat of the third wave of COVID-19 in October.

Several big starrers like Bunty Aur Babli 2, Sooryavanshi,  83, Haathi Mere Saathi and Jersey are awaiting a release in theatres. However,  makers of these films are waiting for an opportune period for releasing their films.

While the makers of Kgf 2 and RRR have scheduled release of their films in April next year,  makers of Tadap,  the acting debut of Suneil Shetty's son Ahan Shetty,  have scheduled release of the film on December 3.

Many others like Bhoot Police and Dhamaka  will see a direct release on OTT in September or October.
