Rashmi Rocket trailer; Tapsee features in a gritty tale about a woman's fight against gender testing in sports

It is a film that has created  buzz among cinelovers with the posters and promos of the film promising an engrossing story of a small town girl's rise to become a medal winning athlete for the country.

Curiosity around the sports biopic Rashmi Rocket, featuring Tapsee Pannu in the title role,  has been further heightened by its trailer unveiled by the makers on Thursday evening.

Trailer of Rashmi Rocket,  shared by the makers Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar and Zee5,  which will be streaming the sports biopic from October 15, provides us a peek into a gritty tale about gender testing in sports.

The trailer takes us through the life of small town girl Rashmi who dreams of becoming an international athlete.  It shows Rashmi's journey from her small town to roots to winning medals for the country.

However,  her life takes a grim turn after a gender verification test carried out by the sports authorities leads to her being banned from the sport, leaving her life shattered.

Accused of fraud and being disparaged by the sports association and her fans, Rashmi decides to fight back and files a human rights violation case against the sports association , challenging the laws of the nation in her fight for justice.


The trailer of the film promises an engrossing story of an underdogs win against odds.

Tapsee Pannu said that Rashmi Rocket is an ode to athletes who have given their sweat and blood to the nation and still have to put up with nasty remarks asking them to change their gender.

Recently,  Tapsee Pannu found herself being subjected to nasty remarks on social media especially after she transformed herself in course if her preparation for the role of Rashmi.

Responding to such remarks,  Tapsee said, 'heartfelt thank you. From yours Truly. But there are many women who actually hear this daily for no fault of theirs. An ode to all the athletes who give their sweat and blood to the sport and their nation and still get to hear this.'

Rashmi Rocket,  Directed by Akarsh Khurana and produced by RSVP films of Ronnie Screwvala and Mango People India,  tracks Rashmi's journey from a tiny village to athletic contests

It features Tapsee Pannu as the athlete Rashmi.

The story and dialogues of the film have been written by Nanda Periyasamy  Kanika Dhillon respectively.

Shooting for the film was held last year at various locations in Rajasthan.

Tapsee has said that she had to do rigorous training to assay her role in Rashmi Rocket. She had to hit the gym really hard.

In a social media post last year,  Tapsee thanked her fitness expert Sujeet Kargutkar, sports physio Prachi Shah Arora, nutritionist Munmun Ganeriwal
and athletic coach Melwyn Crasto for being instrumental for her transformation to an athlete on reel.

Tapsee was last seen in Vinil Mathew's Haseen Dilruba, a mystery thriller featuring her alongside Vikrant Massey. 

She will be soon seen in Shabaash Mithu, based on the life of Indian women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj.

She is also Shooting for her debut  film production venture Blurr .

An edge of the seat thriller,  Blurr is being produced by Tapsee  under her production banner Outsiders Films,  a banner she launched last week in collaboration with Pranjal Khandhdiya, a content creator and producer on films like ‘Super 30’, ‘Soorma’, ‘Piku’, and her upcoming film ‘Rashmi Rocket’ .

Blurr has been co written by Pawan Sony and Ajay Bahl and will be helmed by Bahl who has directed films like ‘Section 375’ and ‘BA Pass’.

Rashmi Rocket is the latest film to witness a direct OTT release amid the threat of the Delta variant of covid and looming threat of third wave, which have led the Maharashtra government to keep the cinema halls in the state closed.

Closure of cinema halls in Maharashtra have impacted earnings of Bollywood films Bell Bottom and Chehre and the multilingual film Thalaivii .

Amid the uncertainty,  makers of several upcoming films have either postponed their release to a  more opportune period or are releasing their films directly on OTT. 

Recent months have seen release of films like Shershah, Bhuj The Pride of India,  Toofan and Bhoot Police on various digital platforms. 

While Shershah was released on Amazon Prime Video,  Bhuj The Pride of India and Bhoot Police were released on Disney Hotstar.  Toofan was released on Amazon Prime Video.
