Sooryavanshi to release in cinemas on Diwali

After several delays and postponements due to Covid, Akshay Kumar Katrina Kaif starrer Sooryavanshi is set to release in theatres this Diwali.
An announcement in this regard was made by film's director Rohit Shetty and it's lead actor Akshay Kumar after a meeting with Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.

The announcement of the release of Sooryavanshi , whose release in cinemas had been earlier postponed several times due to COVID-19 pandemic, comes after the decision of the state government to reopen theatres in the state from October 22.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, Sooryavanshi, featuring Akshay Kumar and Katrina in lead roles, has witnessed several postponements over the lastvyear and a half due to Covid.
The film, which features Ranveer Singh in a key role , had earlier been scheduled for a theatrical release on April 30 but the makers postponed it due to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
An unprecedented surge in covid cases in the country in April had resulted in makers of mega starrers Haathi Mere Saathi, Bunty Aur Babli2, Chehre, Sooryavanshi , Satyamev Jayate 2 and Toofan postponing release of these films till a later date.

The grave Covid situation adversely impacted the earnings of recently released Bollywood films Roohi, Mumbai Saga, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar and Saina.

Earlier, there were reports of the makers mulling over an Independence day release of the film in theatres. However, with the threat of Delta variant of covid and looming threat of third wave, no decision was made in this regard.
The makers of the much awaited film have been against the release of the film on OTT evdn as the uncertainty on reopening of theatres in Maharashtra has led many filmmakers to release their films on OTT.
