Sooryavanshi brings back audiences to cinemas, earns over Rs 75 cr in its opening weekend

After a drought of film releases over the last 19 months,  Sooryavanshi has finally brought back audiences to cinemas with a bang.

The Akshay Kumar Katrina Kaif starrer,  continuing its strong run at the box office,  has earned over Rs 75 cr its opening weekend,  heralding a revival of the film business in the country.

Sooryavanshi,  which took a flying start at the box office with opening day collections of Rs 26 crore , saw a jump in its earnings on Sunday to Rs 27.5 cr.

Sooryavanshi has now earned Rs 77.5 cr in its opening weekend,  the highest earnings of a Bollywood Film post the Pandemic.

The Akshay Kumar Katrina Kaif starrer had earned approximately Rs 24 cr on its second day on Saturday,.

The film has done excellent business in Mumbai.   Trade sources said that the collections of Sooryavanshi could have been much higher but have been impacted by the restrictions of 50 percent occupancy at the thearres in Maharashtra.

The strong run by the film have spread cheer in the film industry as it has brought  back audiences in the theatres and boosted film trade.

Starring Akshay Kumar,  Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh and Katrina Kaif,  Sooryavanshi released on over 4000 cinema halls across India and nearly 1500 cinema halls oversees.

With earnings of nearly Rs 26 cr on its opening day in India,  Sooryavanshi became the second highest opener for Akshay Kumar,  after Mission Mangal.

Trade experts say that It is the fourth highest opener for Rohit Shetty,  after Singham Returns,  Chennai Express and Golmaal Again.

Sooryavanshi has finally broken the jinx  for Bollywood,  which has in the past few months witnessed films like Bell Bottom,  Mumbai Saga,  Chehre and Thalaivi take an average opening in India amid the restrictions in cinema halls necessitated by Covid-19 pandemic and the reluctance of the audiences to venture out to watch films in theatres amid the looming threat of Covid-19.

The strong opening taken by Sooryavanshi has spread cheer in the film industry which is seeing it as a sign of the revival of film business in the country.

Though the past few months have witnessed the release of big starrers like Roohi, Mumbai Saga, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, Bell Bottom and Chehre,  all of these film had an average run at the box office amid the continuing threat of Covid and restrictions put on place on entry of audiences in cinema halls.

However,  now, with a sharp decline in the Covid-19 cases across India,  cinema halls in most parts of the,  barring Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh,  are now operating at 100 per cent of their capacity.

The release of Sooryavanshi  kickstarts the process of release of big starrers in the cinema halls after a drought of film releases over the last 19 months due to the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Release of Sooryavanshi will be followed by the release of Bunty Aur Babli2 and Antim on November 19 and that of Satyameva Jayate 2 on November 25.

An action thriller Directed by Rohit Shetty,  Sooryavanshi stars Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles with Ranveer Singh featured in a pivotal role.

The film has  also been produced by Rohit Shetty in association with Cape Of Good Films of Akshay Kumar.
