Velle; Abhay Deol, Karan Deol shine in sweet comedy with heart touching emotions
By Rajesh Ahuja
A comedy of errors about a group of good for nothing individuals embarking on a risky adventure where things go awry has been the underlying theme in many bollywood films, the most recent being Fukrey.
Deven Munjal's Velle is latest in the line of Bollywood comedies where three good for nothing guys devise an ingenuous plan of fake kidnapping of their new girl pal only to find things going awry at the last minute.
Velle is a sweet comedy with heart touching emotions |
Rahul,Rambo and Raju are a group of three school boys for whom reading books and studying is a boring and painful affair and for whom chilling out is a favourite pastime.
Together known as R3, Rahul, Rambo and Raju find a kindred soul in Riya, the rebellious daughter of the school principal who wants to pursue her passion for dancing rather then pouring herself in books.
After a tuition teacher misbehaves with Riya, the R3 bash up the tuition teacher.
The four then devise an ingenuous plan to fund Riya's passion for dance. A fake kidnapping of Riya is planned to extort money from her father. However, the plan goes awry when Riya is abducted by real goons. The rest of the film is about how three boys manage to extricate themselves from the mess created by their fake kidnapping
Parallel to the story of these boys runs the story of an aspiring director, who is exasperated by the whimsical ways of film producers and eventually decides to produce his own film with a well known heroine Rohini.
It s an interesting premise for a rollicking comedy . The film begins on a slow note with the director taking his own time to establish various sub plots. However, the film builds up pace as the story progresses culminating in an engrossing finale
Underneath the comic thrills and the comedy of errors in the film, the director also tries to convey a subtle message that no matter how chaotic or turbulent things in one's life may be in the end everything falls in place.
On the face of it Velle may be a rollicking comedy but there is also a strong emotional undercurrent running through the film which brings a smile to your face.
The emotions in the film touch your heart.
After a forgettable act in his debut film Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, Karan Deol highly impresses in Velle as good for nothing boy Rahul with a heart of gold.
He floors you with his one liners delivered with an absolutely deadpan face which evokes laughter from viewers.
Lending him good company are Sawant Singh Premi and Vishesh Tiwari as Rahul's partners in crime Rambo and Raju. Both to them impress with their comic timing, often reminding viewers of Varun Sharma of Fukrey
Anya Singh lends able support to the trio as Riya the rebellious daughter of the school principal. She comes across as cute and endearing
Abhay Deol is competent as aspiring director. Mouni Roy looks beautiful and glamorous as star heroine Rohini.
The rest of the cast including Zakir Hussain and Mahesh Thakur lend able support.
In short , Velle is a sweet and engrossing comedy with heart touching emotions and brilliant performances.
My rating;3/5
