The Kashmir Files collects Rs 71 cr in second weekend,  earns Rs 168 cr in 10 days

Continuing to rock the box office in India,  The Kashmir Files has earned a whopping Rs 71 cr  in its second weekend,  taking its collections in ten days to Rs 168 cr.

The Kashmir Files,  which has been witnessing an upwards climb at the box office since its release on March 11, earned Rs 26 cr on Sunday,  taking its collections in its second weekend to Rs 71 cr.

This is the third highest earning by an Indian film in its second weekend,  after Baahubali The Conclusion and Dangal.

The collections of 168 cr in in 10 days  is the second highest earning by a film post the pandemic,  after the Akshay Kumar Katrina kaif starrer Sooryavanshi.

The film has done excellent business in Delhi , Uttar Pradesh and Punjab with a good showing in Gujarat and Mumbai.

With the film continuing to witness huge crowds at the cinema halls,  trade experts feel that it could soon overtake Sooryavanshi as the highest earner post the Covid pandemic.

The film is attracting huge crowds at the  multiplexes.

Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, The Kashmir Files,  based on the exodus of Kashmiri pandits during the insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir , is a part of trilogy of films on various burning political events in the country.

Produced by Zee Studios and written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, The Kashmir Files stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi in key roles.

The Kashmir Files is the second in the trilogy of films , beginning with The Tashkent Files, which was based in the mysterious death of former prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The third in the trilogy is The Delhi Files, based in the anti Sikh riots of 1984.

It opened to mixed reviews in India.  Critics have praised the performance of Anupam kher in the film.

The film was initially set to release theatrically worldwide on January 26 2022, coinciding with  Republic Day  but was postponed due to the third wave of COVID-19 caused by the Omicron variant spread.

 It has been declared tax-free in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
