Prithviraj earns a poor Rs 55 cr in opening week, witnesses a slump after a rocking start

After a rocking start at the box office, the grand historical venture Prithviraj saw a sharp drop in its collections on the week days,  resulting in the film earning a poor Rs 55 cr in its opening week.

Belying the expectations of the film trade, Prithviraj witnessed a slump on week days,  after earning nearly Rs 40 cr in its opening weekend.

The collections of Prithviraj slumped to a record low of Rs 2.5 cr on Thursday,  taking its collections in its opening week to Rs 54.75 cr.

The promos and trailers of the film had created tremendous buzz among cinegoers ahead of its release .

The film took a rocking start at the box office,  earning Rs 39.25 cr in its opening weekend.

Subsequently,  however,  the collections of the film aw a sharp dropon week days.

The poor collections of the film in its opening week,  especially considering the huge budget of the historical venture,  has come as a shock to the film trade, which had pinned much hope on the Akshay Kumar Manushi Chhillar starrer.

Though the film performed well in Uttar Pradesh,  Rajasthan,  Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat,  it's collections in Maharashtra and South India were woefully short of expectations.

The low collections of Prithviraj in its opening week continues the poor showing by Bollywood films released over the past few months m barring The Kashmir Files and Bhool Bhulaiya2.

The film, which features Akshay Kumar and former Miss World Manushi Chhillar in the lead roles , is  the biopic of the warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan of the Chauhan dynasty who waged a fierce clash against the Islamic Conquest of India by Mohammed Ghori, a ruler from the Ghurid dynasty.

Produced by Yash Raj Films and Aditya Chopra and directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Prithviraj stars Akshay Kumar in the title role of Prithviraj Chauhan..

Prithviraj stars Manushi Chhillar as Prithviraj Chauhan's wife Sanyogita.

Manushi Chhillar makes her Bollywood debut with the film.

Prithviraj also stars Sanjay Dutt,  Sonu Sood,  Ashutosh Rana,  Sakshi Tanwar,  Manav Vij and Lalit Tiwari in pivotal roles.
