Prithviraj earns Rs 39.25 cr on its opening weekend, third highest for a Hindi film post the Covid pandemic

Riding  on the tremendous buzz around the film,  the grand production values, the Yash Raj Films banner and presence of Akshay Kumar , historical venture Prithviraj has earned Rs 39.25 cr in its opening weekend,  the third highest opening weekend earned by a Hindi film post the pandemic.

Prithviraj, which earned Rs 23 cr in its first two days,  saw a jump in its collections on Sunday to Rs 16 cr, taking its earnings in the opening weekend to Rs 39.25 cr.

The film has done excellent business in Uttar Pradesh,  Rajasthan,  Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

Trade sources said that the earnings of the film in its opening weekend are the third highest for a film post the Covid pandemic,  after Sooryavanshi and Bhool Bhulaiya2.

Prithviraj has earned Rs 10 cr in the overseas market in the opening weekend.

The film, which features Akshay Kumar and former Miss World Manushi Chhillar in the lead roles , is  the biopic of the warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan of the Chauhan dynasty who waged a fierce clash against the Islamic Conquest of India by Mohammed Ghori, a ruler from the Ghurid dynasty.

Produced by Yash Raj Films and Aditya Chopra and directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Prithviraj stars Akshay Kumar in the title role of Prithviraj Chauhan..

Prithviraj stars Manushi Chhillar as Prithviraj Chauhan's wife Sanyogita.

Manushi Chhillar makes her Bollywood debut with the film.

Prithviraj also stars Sanjay Dutt,  Sonu Sood,  Ashutosh Rana,  Sakshi Tanwar,  Manav Vij and Lalit Tiwari in pivotal roles.

Prithviraj was earlier scheduled for release in cinemas November 13, 2020 but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  Later, the film was scheduled for release on January 21, 2022 but had to be postponed due to the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

The promos and trailers of the film had created tremendous buzz among cinegoers ahead of its release .
