Disney Hotstar announces Dil Bekarar, based on Anuja Chauhan's best selling novel Those Pricey Thakur Girls

Disney Hotstar is all set to transport the audiences to the bygone era of the 80s with its new original series Dil Bekarar,  based on Anuja Chauhan 's best selling novel Those Pricey Thakur Girls .

Produced by Sobo films and directed by Habib Faisal,  Dil Bekarar,  which features veteran actors Raj Babbar and Poonam Dhillon with Akshay Oberoi and Sahher Bambba, is a light hearted drama series that unravels the sweet and sour story of Delhi’s Thakur family set in 1980s Delhi.

Dil Bekarar unravels the day to day life of the Thakur family as they battle their ideological conflicts in the times of telegrams, telephones, and Gold-spot; to the tunes of RD Burman, Nazia Hassan, and Hum Log.

Disney Hotstar today unveiled an exciting teaser of the series that provides viewers a peek into the charm, beauty and romance of simpler times of the 80s.

Dil Bekarar is set in the graceful colonial Delhi, struggling to shed the past, excitedly looking forward to a liberalized future.

Talking about the series, director Habib Faisal said, “We envisioned Dil Bekaraar as a series that transports the 2020s audience to 1980s, not only to enjoy the charm, grace, and simplicity of the bygone era; but also for a better understanding of ourselves as a society in present times. We are excited to bring this one-of-a-kind concept on Disney+ Hotstar.”

Being produced by Sobo Films, Those Pricey thakur girls is about Justice Laxmi Narayan Thakur and his wife Mamta and then five beautiful but troublesome daughters.

Brought out by Harper Collins,  Anuja Chauhan's novel Those Pricey Thakur Girls is the story of Justice Laxmi Narayan Thakur and his wife Mamta and then five beautiful but troublesome daughters.

Living in the sprawling bungalow on New Delhi's posh Hailey Road, Justice Laxmi Narayan Thakur and his wife Mamta spend their days watching anxiously over their five beautiful (but troublesome) alphabetically named daughters.Anjini, Binodini, Chandrakanta, Eshwari and Debjani.

While Anjini is married but an incorrigible flirt; Binodini is very worried about her children's hissa in the family property. The third daughter is Chandrakanta, who eloped with a foreigner on the eve of her wedding; while the fourth daughter is Eshwari, who is just a little too popular at Modern School, Barakhamba Road; and the Judge's favourite. The fifth daughter is the quietly fiery Debjani, champion of all the stray animals on Hailey Road, who reads the English news on DD.
