Release of Prithviraj deferred, new date of release not  announced yet

The deferment of Hindi film releases following a spurt in Covid-19 cases in the country continues with Yashraj films venture Prithviraj  becoming the latest film to be postponed.

Trade sources said that Prithviraj will not be released on its scheduled date of January 21. New date for the release of the film has, however,  not been announced yet.

The  postponement of the release of Prithviraj comes close on the heels of the makers of the Shahid Kapoor Mrunal Thakur starrer Jersey and The Ram Charan Junior NTR and Ajay Devgn starrer RRR due to the worsening Covid situation in the country.

The last few days have seen a spurt in the Covid-19 cases in the country.

Over 37000 Covid cases were reported in the country in the last 24 hours..

While over 4000 Covid-19 cases were reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours,
Maharashtra reported 12,160 fresh COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths in the last 24 hours.

While the Delhi government has imposed fresh restrictions in the state,  including announcing a weekend curfew in the state and closure of cinema halls,  a night curfews has been imposed in several areas of the country,  including Delhi and Mumbai.

The closure of cinema halls in Delhi and consequent deferment of the release of Jersey, RRR and Prithviraj due to sharp rise in Covid-19 cases ,  puts a question mark on the release of big budget films like   Radhe Shyam and Attack scheduled in coming weeks.

While Radhe Shyam is scheduled for release on January 14, Attack is scheduled for release on January 28.

Infact,  trade experts said that after the worsening Covid situation in the country,  there are strong chances of  postponement of the films scheduled for release in the coming weeks.

Trade experts feel that the unprecedented rise in Covid-19 cases could send the film release calender haywire like it did during the second wave of Covid-19.

The fresh restrictions imposed in several states is sure to impact theatrical collections in these areas,  forcing the makers of upcoming films to mull a postponement of the film's or deciding to release the film directly on OTT.

Several big budget  films are scheduled for release in the coming weeks like    , Radhe Shyam, Prithviraj ,Attack , Badhai Do , Gangubhai Kathiawadi ,Jayeshbhai Jordaar ,Bachchan Pandey , Shamshera and Bhool Bhulaiya 2 .

Produced by Yashraj Films, Prithviraj promises a grand action spectacle that tells the story of fearless warrior and his epic love story with Samyogita.

Ahead of the release of the film, which is set to hit cinema halls on eve of Republic Day next year,  Yashraj films in November unveiled a teaser of the film that features Akshay Kumar in the title role with former Miss World Manushi Chillar playing the role of his beloved Sanyogita.

A period drama based on life of Prithviraj Chauhan,  Prithviraj is directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi and produced by Yashraj films.

It features Akshay Kumar as Prithviraj Chauhan while Manushi Chillar,  who is making her Bollywood debut with the film,  plays Prithviraj Chauhan's beloved wife Samyogita.

Prithviraj Chauhan also stars Sanjay Dutt,  Sonu Sood, Ashutosh Rana,  Sakshi Tanwar and Manav Vij in  pivotal roles.

Prithviraj features Manav Vij as Mohammad Ghori while Ashutosh Rana plays the role of Prithviraj Chauhan's rival Jayachanda.

The film is based on Prithviraj Raso, a Braj Bhasha epic poem about the life of Prithviraj Chauhan

It is notable that Prithviraj Chauhan repulsed the early invasions by Muhammad  Ghori, a ruler of the Muslim Ghurid dynasty. However, in 1192 AD, Mohammad  Ghori defeated Prithviraj at the Second battle of Tarain.

Prithviraj Chauhan's defeat at Tarain is seen as a landmark event in the Islamic conquest of India.
