By Rajesh Ahuja
Amid a sharp spurt in Covid-19 cases in the country, makers of the Prabhas Pooja Hegde starrer Radhe Shyam today announced a postponement of its release.
In a statement, makers of Radhe Shyam said that while they have been trying for the past few days to stick to the scheduled date of release of the film, the rising cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 has impelled them to defer the release of the film.
'We have been trying our best for the past few days but considering the growing cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 it looks like we will have to wait for our labour of love to get to the big screens.
Radhe Shyam is a story of love vs destiny and we are sure that your love will help us rise over these tough times together. Will see you in the cinemas soon,'the statement said.
Radhe Shyam postponed amid spurt in Covid-19 cases |
Radhe Shyam is the fourth film after Jersey, RRR and Prithviraj, to be deferred following a sharp spurt in Covid-19 cases in the country.
Makers of the Shahid Kapoor Mrunal Thakur starrer Jersey had last week announced a postponement of its release after the decision of the Delhi government to shutdown Cinemas Amid a spurt in Covid-19 cases in the state.
Close on the heels of Jersey, makers of the multilingual film RRR and Hindi film Prithviraj earlier this week announced its deferment keeping in view the unabated rise in Covid-19 cases in the country.
The postponement of the release of these films follows a sharp rise in cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the country over the last few weeks.
The number of Covid-19 cases in the country over the past 24 hours was recorded at over 58000.
While Maharashtra has recorded over 10000 cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, Delhi has reported over 5000 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
Amid the spurt in Covid cases in the country, several states like Delhi and Bihar have announced a shutdown of theatres while many states like Maharashtra have imposed a restriction of 50 per cent capacity in cinemas. Further, imposition of night curfews in several states has affected collections in the late evening shows which have made a severe dent in the collections of Spider-Man No Way Home and 83.
The worsening Covid situation in the country and shutdown of theatres in Delhi and Bihar has led to uncertainty on the theatrical release of upcoming big budget films like Attack, Gangubhai Kathiawadi, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Bachchan Pandey, Laal Singh Chadha, Badhai Do, Shamshera and several others.
The fresh restrictions imposed in several states is sure to impact theatrical collections in these areas, forcing the makers of upcoming films to mull a postponement of the film's or deciding to release the film directly on OTT.
Written and directed by Radha Krishna Kumar, Radhe Shyam, starring Prabhas and Pooja Hegde, was scheduled for release on January 14.
Produced by UV Creations, Gopi Krishna Movies and T-Series, Radhe Shyam has been shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi .
