90s stars make a  glorious comeback on digital screen

As the OTT emerges as the new entertainment destination, several stars of the 90s era have been making a glorious comeback with engrossing thrillers and dramas on the digital screen. 

Recent years have seen many 90s sensations making a smashing comeback with entertaining web series and films telecast on the Disney Hotstar streaming platform. 

After winning accolades with their charming on screen presence and iconic roles in 90s, actors like Sushmita Sen,  Lara Dutta,  Raj Babbar,  Padmini Kolhapure,  Poonam Dhillon and Tej Sapru  have  impressed viewers with their sensational comeback in exciting movies and series on the Disney Hotstar streaming platform. 

Coming weeks will see 90s star Esha Deol her digital debut with the crime thriller Rudra The Edge of Darkness,  to be streamed on Disney Hotstar from March 4. 

As Esha Deol gets ready for her comeback with Rudra The Edge of Darkness,  here is a look at 90s stars who have made a smashing comeback with popular web series and films streamed on Disney Hotstar. 

Sushmita Sen – Aarya 

Revered actor Sushmita Sen marked her comeback and digital debut with the International Emmy nominated action thriller Hotstar Specials’ Aarya.  

Playing the role of Aarya Sareen,  Sushmita Sen bowled over audiences with her act as a fierce lioness fighting the odds to save her family from the clutches of her husband’s murderers. 






Lara Dutta – Hundred 

The recent months  also witnessed 90s actress Lara Dutta making her comeback with the comedy series, Hundred. The series saw actor Lara Dutta play the role of a female cop on a race against time. She sets out to solve crimes with a new undercover agent while taking the viewer on a hilarious emotional roller coaster. 






Padmini Kolhapure – Dil Bekaraar 

After impressing audiences with films like Ptar Jhukta Nahin, Ahusta Ahista and Zamane Ko Dikhaana Hai in the 90s, veteran actor Padmini Kolhapure marked her digital debut with Disney+ Hotstar’s family drama, Dil Bekarar. The show set in 80’s India saw the actress take the audience on a nostalgic journey with her character, Bhudevi. She played a middle-aged gossip-loving socialite who loves paan, is a ping pong champion and is forever suspicious of her husband. 






Poonam Dhillon - Dil Bekaraar 

Poonam Dhillon,  who charmed viewers in 90s with her girl next door act in films like Trishul, Noorie and Dard, also marking her digital debut alongside Raj Babbar and Padmini Kolhapure in the web series Dil Bekaraar. Playing the role of Mamta, she essayed her usual charming grace on the screen to the fullest. As a mother of 5 who dreams of seeing all her children settle down in life, she revelled in her role of a benevolent mother.

Dil Bekaraar also saw 90s actor Raj Babbar make a comeback as retired Justice L N Thakur,  Head of the crazy Thakur family of the 80s.

As  brilliant as retired justice L N Thakur who spends his days anxiously, filled with worries and trepidation on the future of his five daughters, Raj Babbar came across as impressive. and won accolades for his performance. 




The coming weeks will see 90s actress Esha Deol make her digital debut with the web series Rudra The Edge of Darkness , to be streamed on Disney Hotstar from March 4. 

The actress will be seen in an all-new avatar re-kindling her chemistry with the series’ lead, Ajay Devgn, who plays top cop Rudra. Esha Deol will be seen playing a pivotal role in helping Rudra uncover the psyche of highly-intelligent criminals in the idiosyncratic race-against-the-clock thriller. 

Rudra – The Edge of Darkness will hit screens on March 4 in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Bengali.
