Gangubhai Kathiawadi earns Rs 37.5 cr in its opening weekend

Continuing with its strong run at the box office,  Gangubhai Kathiawadi has earned Rs 37.5 crore in its opening weekend.

The film , which earned Rs 22.5 cr in its first two days,  saw a big jump in its collections on Sunday to Rs 15.25 cr , talking it total earnings in the opening weekend to Rs 37.5 cr.

The film has done good business from Andhra Pradesh and Mumbai. It has also scored well in the non metro cities.

Collection of Rs 37.5 cr are commendable considering that Gangubhai Kathiawadi is a woman centric film.

Gangubhai Kathiawadi is expected to benefit from the absence of any Hindi film release in cinemas in the coming week. 

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and produced by Jayantilal Gada and Sanjay Leela Bhansali,  Gangubhai Kathiawadi is based on the life of Gangubhai,  a Madam in the red light area of Kamathipura.

The film stars Alia Bhatt in the title role with Shantanu Maheshwari,  Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari and Seema Pahwa in pivotal roles.

Gangubhai Kathiawadi features Ajay Devgn in an extended cameo.

The film has generated tremendous buzz in the run up to its release due to it being helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the presence of Alia Bhatt.
