Jayeshbhai Jordar takes an average opening at box office, earns Rs 3 cr on its opening day

The average run of Bollywood films at the box office,  amid a historic opening taken by Hindi versions of South Indian films like RRR and KGF2,  continues with this week's release Jayeshbhai Jordar taking a  poor opening in theatres across India.

Despite being associated with a banner like Yash Raj Films and the presence of Bollywood heartthrob Ranveer Singh,  Jayeshbhai Jordar had a below average start at the box office,  earning just Rs 3 cr on its opening day on Friday.

The critical appreciation for the film Notwithstanding,  Jayeshbhai Jordar failed to draw crowds to the theatres.

The below average opening taken by the film is in line with the box office performance by Bollywood films released in theatres over the last few months like Attack, Jersey , Chandigarh Kare Ashiqui, 83, Runway 34, Bachchan Pandey and Heropanti2.

The below average run of these films comes amid the historic opening taken by Hollywood films like Spider Man No Way Home and Dr Strange and the Hindi versions of South Indian films Pushpa, RRR and KGF2.

Jayeshbhai Jordar had poor collections in Delhi and the National Capital region and in metropolitan cities. Even the collections from Gujarat and Saurashtra were below expectations despite it being a story about a Gujarati sarpanch Jayeshbhai Patel who believes in equal rights between men and women.

Written and directed by Divyang Thakkar and produced by Aditya Chopra and Maneesh Sharma under the banner of Yash Raj Films,  Jayeshbhai Jordar is the story of traditional Gujarati sarpanch Jayeshbhai Patel who believes in equal rights between men and women in society.


Jayeshbhai Jordar stars Ranveer Singh in the titular role of Jayeshbhai Patel while featuring Shalini Pandey,  Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah in pivotal roles.


Ahead of the release of the film,  actor Ranveer Singh said that Jayeshbhai Jordar is a film that is extremely close to his heart.

Jayeshbhai Jordar was postponed several times due to Covid-19 pandemic.  It was initially scheduled for theatrical release on October 2, 2020 and then on August 27 last year and February 25 this year but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ranveer Singh has got appreciation from critics for his performance in the film.
