Hit The First Case and Shabaash Mithu perform poorly in opening weekend

While Hit The First Case saw a slight jump in its collections after a poor Rs 1.15 cr on its opening day,  collections of Shabaash Mithu remained dull on the weekend after earning just Rs 40 lakh on its opening day.

After a poor Rs 1.15 cr on its opening day,  Hit The First Case saw a jump in its collections on Saturday and Sunday to Rs 1.90 cr and Rs 2.30 cr, taking its earnings in the opening weekend to Rs 5.3 cr. However,  the collections of the film in its opening weekend remained poor especially considering the high budget of the film.

After a poor start of Rs 40 lakh on its opening day,  sports biopic Shabaash Mithu dis not witness much growth during the weekend with earnings of Rs 55 lakh and Rs 70 lakh on Saturday and Sunday respectively.  The film now has collections of Rs 1.65 cr in its opening weekend.

The below average collections of the two films in the opening weekend continues the poor run by Bollywood films released in cinemas in recent months.

Barring films like The Kashmir Files,  Bhool Bhulaiya2 and Jug Jugg Jeeyo,  most Hindi films,  including big starrers like Jersey, Attack,Runway 34, Dhaakad and Prithviraj failed to draw crowds to the theatres.

Trade experts attribute the poor run by Bollywood films to the change in audience tastes due to the emergence of OTT platforms as an alternative source for entertainment content for the audience during the Covid pandemic.

They say that with the emergence of OTT as an entertainment destination,  audiences are not willing to go to the theatres for content that is not mass appealing.

Starring Taapsee Pannu in the lead role, Shabaash Mithu, directed by Srijit Mukherji and produced by Viacom18 Studios, is based on the life of the former Indian cricket team captain, Mithali Raj, who is considered one of the greatest female cricketers in the Indian squad.

The film chronicles the ups and downs and moments of glory in her life.

Directed by Shailesh Kolanu,  Hit The First Case is a murder mystery.

Vikram Jaisingh, a 32 years old police officer working for the homicide Intervention Team (HIT) of Rajasthan is battling with his own traumatic past. He gets advised by his well-wishers and his girlfriend, to take sabbatical and heal. But, when an 18 year old girl called Preethi goes mysteriously missing on the ring road of Jaipur, Vikram realizes that the case has a personal connection and he has no other option but to step in and find the girl, despite the investigation inducing panic attacks and anxiety at every stage.
