Sharing screen space with my dad Pankaj Kapur was  scary and nerve wracking; Shahid

Bollywood heartthrob Shahid Kapoor, who is awaiting release of his next film Jersey,  a heart warming story of a cricketer who is looking to make a comeback to the sport after a gap of 16 years, says that sharing screen space with his dad Pankaj Kapur in the film was scary and nerve wracking.

Shahid Kapoor said that working with his dad Pankaj Kapur in Jersey was scary and nerve wracking

Speaking during the release of the trailer of Jersey,  Shahid Kapoor said that it is always a privilege for him to share screen space with actors of his dad's calibre.

'It's very scary to work with your dad especially when he is an actor known for his outstanding body of work,'Shahid Kapoor said at the trailer launch of the film last evening,  which was also attended by jerseys female lead Mrunal Thakur, it's producer Allu Aravind and it's director Gowtam Tinnannuri.

Talking about his experience of working with his father,  Shahid Kapoor said, 'It's very nerve wracking working with him. But it is also a pleasure working with him. When you are an actor at heart it is amazing standing in the same frame with a great actor and seeing what he is doing with his craft and trying to react to it honestly and learning from him.

I want to work with people like him like Irrfan sir (Irfan khan) Tabu mam.(Tabu) . These are  phenomenal actors. Being in the frame with them  is like learning how to act. It is a privilege for me to share screen space with actors of my dad's Calibre..'

In this regard Shahid referred to an incident during a shoot for the film in which his father was also participating.

'During a shoot of the film with dad and me, Gowtam (director) said that he is very concerned . He told me that 'Your dad was outstanding in the shot and I wonder whether you will be able to match his performance in the shot. You better be very good in the shot otherwise people will not look at you',Shahid Kapoor said.

An accomplished actor,  Pankaj Kapur,  who rose to fame with the television series Karamchand in the 80s, has earned acclaim for his performances in several films over the years,  with three national film awards in Raakh, Ek Doctor Ki Maut and Maqbool.

Written and directed by Gowtam Tinnannuri, Jersey is the story of Arjun Raichand, a thirty six year old cricketer who stopped his cricketing career ten years ago and is  now aiming to play for Indian team.

A remake of Gowtam Tinnannuri's 2019 Telugu film of the same title, Jersey stars Shahid Kapoor as Arjun Raichand while Mrinal Thakur features as his wife .

The film, which has been produced by Allu Aravind,  Aman Gill, Dil Raju and Suryadevara, also features Shahid Kapoor's father  Pankaj Kapur in a key role.

Shahid Kapoor has said that the role in Jersey is something that is close to his heart.

The actor has said that the shooting for the film was held amid the raging Covid pandemic.

The film was earlier scheduled to release in August last year  but it' was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jersey marks Shahid Kapoor's return to the big screen after a long gap.  He was last seen in the film Kabir Singh,  released in 2019.
