Aranyak is about two Police officers Kasturi (Raveena Tandon) and Angad(Parambrata Chatterjee) embarking on a journey to solve the murder of a foreign teenaged tourist in the fictional hill town of Sironah
After a foreign teenage tourist disappears in a misty hill town nestled in the Himalayas, the local cop Kasturi, who is on a one year leave, cut shorts her leave to join hands with her city-bred replacement Angad to solve the case of the missing teenager.
After a foreign teenage tourist disappears in a misty hill town nestled in the Himalayas, the local cop Kasturi, who is on a one year leave, cut shorts her leave to join hands with her city-bred replacement Angad to solve the case of the missing teenager.
As the two Police officers begin investigating the case , they stumble upon dark secrets rooted in Sironah's past. The investigation also revives a forgotten myth of a bloodthirsty, serial killing entity in the forest.
As the probe progresses and the police officers Zero in on various suspects in the case, political games and personal agendas of various players comes to the fore.
Set in a fictional town of Himachal Pradesh, Aranyak keeps you glued with its engrossing mystery which constantly engages you with a heady mix of crime, power and politics . As the mystery in the series unravels, one comes across the political powerplay by various individuals, each one having their personal agenda. There is an element of mystery about this picturesque hill town with everyone hiding a deep secret within themselves.
An excellent background score helps build up of an eerie atmosphere reflecting an all pervading tension in the hill town . The eerie backdrop in the picturesque hill town of Sironah forms an integral part of the story, heightening the mystery level.
Raveena Tandon is brilliant as the local police officer Kasturi, who prides herself on the deep knowledge of the topography of the hill town and has her hand on the pulse of the area and it's people. Raveena, who is seen in a full fledged role on screen after a long gap, makes a remarkable digital debut with Aranyak. As the local cop Kasturi, she aces the local dialect . Her chemistry with Parambrata Chatterjee comes across as sparkling and is the highlight of the series.
Parambrata Chatterjee is perfect as the city bred police officer Angad, who takes time to get used to the chaotic ways of the hill town. He comes with a nuanced portrayal as a person who is ill at ease with the happenings in the hill town and as a person saddled with a dark past..
Ashutosh Rana is another highlight of the show as the retired cop Mahadev. He is the professional Guru of Kasturi who knows Sironah like the back of his hand.
Tanisha Joshi and Wishvesh Sarkharoli impress as Kasturi's daughter Nutan and her boyfriend Bunty.
The rest of the cast including Meghna Malik, Zakir Hussain, Indraneil Sengupta, Lalit Parimoo, Anna Ador and Breshna Khan lend able support.
In short, Aranyak is an engrossing mystery which keeps you engaged with a heady cocktail of crime, power and politics. It boasts of brilliant performances by Raveena Tandon and Parambrata Chatterjee.
My Rating; 3.5/5
