Illegal 2: a gripping thriller with brilliant performances by Piyush Mishra and Neha Sharma

By Rajesh Ahuja

The first season took us through the naked display of money and muscle Power that goes into determining the outcome of legal battles even before the arguments in the courtroom.

After the success of season 1 of Illegal, a stark and engrossing drama about the illegal behind the scenes machinations that determine the outcome of legal battles in many of the cases, makers have now come up with a second season.

Illegal 2 is a gripping thriller with brilliant performances

Season 1 saw fiery and mad lawyer Niharika (Neha Sharma) trying to come to grips with the rampant illegalities in the legal system that often present to the people a manipulated and distorted version of the truth.

The end of season 1 saw  Niharika Singh come out of the shadow of veteran lawyer Janardhan Jaitley(Piyush Mishra) after a belated realisation that it is lawyers like him who are the progenitors of the numerous illegalities in the legal system. After realizing that she was being manipulated by Janardan jaitley all this while, she  switched sides from defence to prosecution and help convict Neeraj, even though he is her half-brother

Season 2 sees Niharika set up a law firm with Punit(Satyadeep Mishra) , a former colleague of Janardhan Jaitley and a person who is privy to the numerous illegalities perpetrated in the legal system by Janardhan Jaitley .

Going is however not easy for Niharika with Janardhan Jaitley, reeling under Niharika betraying him in the case related to defence of rapist Neeraj,  has launched a no holds barred attack against her , obstructing  growth of her incipient law firm with his conspiracies. .

With Janardhan Jaitley now being a Rajya sabha MP and a potential Chief Minister of Delhi, Niharika Singh finds herself confronted with a more formidable foe.

The story of season 2 revolves around whether she will  be able to hold her own against her formidable foe.

Screenplay of the series by Advaita Kala is engrossing and keeps viewers constantly on the edge of their seats . The conspiracies hatched by Janardhan Jaitley to stymie progress of his bete noire Niharika and his attempts to unravel the various scams of Delhi chief minister (Achint Kaur) keep you hooked to the proceedings.

Director Ashwini Chaudhary manages to maintain a curiosity level throughout the eight episodes of the series.

Like the previous season,  performances are a USP of the second season.

Piyush Mishra bowls you over with another virtuoso act as Janardhan Jaitley,  the sharp witted lawyer turned politician who launches a no holds barred war against his former protege Niharika Singh and who is constantly weaving conspiracies to overthrow Mrinalini as the chief minister of Delhi

Neha Sharma again impresses with her spirited act as fiery lawyer Niharika Singh who fearlessly stands up to the illegal machinations of Janardhan Jaitley. and manages to hold her own against him despite the enormous power wielded by him.

Akshay Oberoi is perfect as Akshay Jaitley who is trying to come out of the overarching shadow of his father Janardhan Jaitley and as a person caught between his wife Devika(Parul Gulati) and his first love Niharika.

Satyadeep Mishra lends able support In his role as Niharika Singh 's partner Punit who is content with being a backroom boy as Niharika takes the limelight.

The rest of the cast including Parul Gulati, Tanuj Virwani , Raher Shabbir and Kriti Vij lend able support.

In a nutshell Illegal 2 is another gripping legal thriller with brilliant performances by Piyush Mishra and Neha Sharma.
