Writer director of web series Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam Meenu Gaur says that it is an exciting time for female directors who can tell stories with strong female protagonists |
Ahead of the premiere of the show on Zee5 on December 10, the British Indian director hoped that the strong feminine voice of the show will resonate with the audiences.
“I hope people have fun watching this show and the mystery, mood, mahoul (vibe) draws them in. It is an exciting time for female directors who can tell stories with strong female protagonists in male-dominated genres. I hope the strong feminine voice of this series resonates with the audience,'Meenu Gaur said.
Talking about the desi noir series showcasing fearless and bold characters, Meenu Gaur, describing a ‘Qatil Haseena’ , said,'a Qatil Haseena for me is a feminine threat but a threat isn’t always a bad thing. What if it’s a threat to patriarchy? Or a threat to stereotypes? Or a moral universe that constantly attacks women for making their rightful claim? This threat is needed. A woman knowing what she wants and getting it, that’s all it takes for a woman to be called a vamp.”
She said that the new web series will strike a chord with strong women.
“A Qatil Haseena is also beautiful, playful, with a lot of swag. She claims what is hers and is unapologetic. She can come in any age, shape, or colour. Strong women will identify with our Qatil Haseenas because if you’re strong and not shy of showing your strength, then you become a threat even if you do nothing much.” she said.
Meenu Gaur said that the series is an attempt to correct the sexism of film noir .
"This idea for the show was like an outpouring for me and it's no surprise that the stories here are about all that which surges within us as women- love, passion, ambition, conviction, rage, revenge, and revolution. With the dominance of a male-centric gaze especially in the noir genre, I was keen to explore a new interpretation, one which is told from the perspective of the much-maligned femme fatale (Qatil Haseena) characters. It is an attempt to correct the sexism of film noir and try our hands at feminist noir,'Meenu Gaur said.
A desi noir anthology, Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam is a compilation of six stories of seven women who wrest back control and redefine the word femme fatale.
Each story from the anthology depicts the fearlessness of women and their determination to avenge deceit. At the core of the stories is mystery, suspense, intrigue with twist endings.
The series features an eclectic cast with leading actors from the subcontinent including Ahsan Khan, Osman Khalid Butt, Sheheryar Munawar, Saleem Mairaj, Samiya Mumtaz, Sanam Saeed, Sarwat Gilani, Mehar Bano, Faiza Gillani, Beo Raana Zafar and Eman Suleman.
Written by Farjad Nabi and Meenu Gaur, ‘Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam’ is set in the timeless lanes of ‘Androon Sheher’ - a mythical neighborhood . It showcases stories of love, lust, power, and redemption woven in a web of betrayal, angst, and revenge.
