83 earns Rs 12 cr on opening day,continues buoyancy at box office collections after Sooryavanshi & Spider-Man

Riding on the emotional factor associated with India’s first cricket World Cup win in 1983 , excellent direction by Kabir Khan and the performance by the cast , including Ranveer Singh,  83 has earned nearly Rs 12 cr on its opening day in India,  continuing the buoyancy at the box office spurred by Sooryavanshi and the Spider-Man No Way Home.

83, which charts the journey of the then Indian team led by its captain Kapil Dev,  from an underdog to becoming the world champions, has done excellent business at the multiplexes across the country,  especially in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, UP and Punjab .



83 earns Rs 12 cr on its opening day 




The maximum earnings of the film came from Mumbai (Rs 3.9 cr), Delhi and UP (Rs 2.5 cr) and Punjab (Rs 1.3 cr).

The film is expected to witness a jump in its collections on Saturday and Sunday considering that it is a Christmas weekend.

With earnings of Rs 12 cr on its opening day,  83 has become one of the highest openers for Ranveer Singh and the second biggest opener from Bollywood post the Pandemic after Sooryavanshi .

83 is Ranveer Singh's seventh highest opener after Padmaavat, Simmba, Gully Boy,  Gunday, Ramleela and Bajirao Mastani.

The collections of Rs 12 cr on the opening day for 83 continues the buoyancy in the box office earnings in the country spurred by Sooryavanshi and Spider-Man No Way Home.

While Hindi films released post Sooryavanshi like Bunty Aur Babli2,  Satyameva Jayate,  Antim The Final Truth,  Tadap and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui recorded below average collections, Trade experts are optimistic that the euphoric response to Spider-Man No Way Home and 83 will continue in the coming weeks for  films like   Jersey, RRR , Radhe Shyam, Prithviraj ,Attack , Badhai Do , Gangubhai Kathiawadi ,Jayeshbhai Jordaar ,Bachchan Pandey , Shamshera and Bhool Bhulaiya 2 .

Released on December 24 on 3741 screens in Hindi,  Tamil ,  Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada versions ,  83 stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, Hardy Sandhu, Aditi Arya,  Tahir Bhasin, A mythological virus, Pankaj Tripathi and Deepika Padukone.

The film has earned acclaim from critics for its excellent direction and brilliant performances by Ranveer Singh and the rest of the cast.
